Equipment
Drawings from the Equipment series continue an exploration into objects that are designed to extend or mimic the body. Sketches of sports equipment such as baseball mitts accompany these drawings. The leather surfaces of these subjects, a borrowed and tougher skin, inform the objects. The Dummies are stuffed or slipped skins, tangible, solid objects packed full of substance, designed to be handled and played with. The forms emulate the figure; erect and full of pride, or deflated and disappointed. In Anaïs Nin’s diaries, she discusses the consolation of objects, and lists those that attract her: silver paper, pearl-headed pins, a white leather purse. Objects of desire and consolation are suggested in the Tranquilizer drawings.
